Formas de Brincar
The body, as it supports Foucault, is a practical and direct place of social control, in his book History of the Sexuality, the philosopher underlines that by means of the organization and regulation of time, space and of the movements of our daily lives, our bodies are trained, molded and marked by the matrix of historical predominant forms of individuality, desire, masculinity and femininity, becoming docile bodies whose forces and energies are accustomed to the external control.
The opening season of Formas de Brincar (“Forms to Play”), contemplated by the prize Elisabete Anderle 2009 (Edital Elisabete Anderle de Estímulo a Cultura by the Fundação Catarinense de Cultura), occured in three places of Florianópolis between the months of September and October of 2010. The opening happened in September 21, in the Felipe Schmidt Street in Florianópolis.
Formas de Brincar is the result of ERRO’s research concerning game as a booster of scenic actions that, in this work, have as focus in the traditional and popular game of the Cinco Marias (“Five Marias”) under the optics of the system of object and the reification of body as mere aesthetic object. Through its hybrid language, deriving from theater and performance, the group has a proposal, in Formas de Brincar, to make an appropriation of popular games and the reflection from the relation between body and object by the perspective of philosophers such as J. Huizinga, J. Baudrillard and M. Foucault.
“Docile need to learn: don’t fight with the food, demonstrating effort when cutting or raising your elbows…”
Formas de Brincar deals with the aesthetic objectification and disciplinarily of the human body, exploring the street as field of a specific game and, as consequence, influenced by a series of other popular games.
Our bodies possess the images that expose the fusion and border with objects. Dominant victims of stereotypes, images, role-models, when retracting its individualities, the bodies fortify the chains that aim the production, the massification and the seduction of consumption. In contemporary society we perish to the seduction of loaned attitudes, to the lack of authenticity, to fragments of chosen positions, almost unconsciously, inside a gamma of dominant stereotypes. The representation of the game of the Cinco Marias unified to a quarrel on the feminine body as object in the society in a social space is a fertile land for the artistic social and political creation.
One of the focuses of the ERRO’s research, since its formation, is the construction of situations that explore the game as a possibility for action, in 2003, the group carried through an urban intervention, Buzkashi, in 2006, Desvio. Formas de Brincar is the group’s continuity of the research – the intersection of art to daily-life, thought through games that infiltrate the urban environment – in an action that fuses scenic arts and plastic arts in urban intervention.
